General Electric T-236A (1963)

As much as I love my Zenith AM Radio, and as great as my new KH Hi-Fi sounds, I found I needed an extra radio to ensure I had music in my study. Thus, I picked up this little guy on a clearance discount.

It's really the last of its generation: it uses six tubes rather than transistors (which means it takes about ten seconds to warm up before you hear anything), and the fetching pastel coloring and copper accents are out of sync with the mid-60s trend toward bold colors.  Still, it covers both the AM and FM bands and includes Automatic Frequency Control, which keeps the signal from drifting once you've tuned in a station. It's just over a foot wide, which makes it perfect for any desk. It comes with an internal antenna that works pretty well, but you can attach one, too.

In short, it's a cheap plastic radio – FM for the masses, Kennedy-style!
