Fiamma 50-piece Flatware Set (1957)

Everyone, it seems, gets a set of flatware as a wedding present, and we were no exception. However, that happy day was some 24 years ago (in 1942), and by 1958, our cutlery drawyer was a hodgepodge of the original set, miscellaneous replacements, and even some plastic utensils nicked from friends' birthday parties.

So imagine our delight when, for Hannukah/Christmas 1958, we received a brand new Fiamma 50-piece service set for eight!

Produced by Sears Roebuck and Co., the Fiamma line is stainless steel and sturdy as anything.  And so modern!  Gone are the Victorian filigrees and straight lines.  Instead, delight in the bold, Space Age curves and subtle adornment.

And they're guaranteed for 50 years — we'll be using this set well into the 21st Century (God willing we should live so long…)
